Y1 Final Major Project - Final Outcome

This is my final outcome for this brief, I have really enjoyed working on all of my work on this brief and I think I have produced some really good outcomes. For my final outcome I decided to use muslin fabric as I think it drapes well as a wall hanging. I used my original techniques from my mounted samples on my final as I think they work well. I have made this piece more detailed than my others because I think that it looks better with the larger material piece. I really like this final outcome because it relates my chosen idea really well and I think it looks really effective and professional. 

Y1 Final Major Project - Mounted Samples

For my mounted samples I decided to use a range of five different fabrics (cotton, calico, two types of muslin and a material used to make blinds). I used a roller to make the patterned backgrounds on my pieces then free stitched (with a domestic machine) to make flower shapes and then sewed on petals that I had cut from tissue paper. I like these samples because they translate my idea well and look professional, I decided to make them into wall hangings as I chose to make my metre length (final piece) a wall hanging. 

Y1 Final Major Project - Bookwork

This is my development work from my sketchbook, it is inspired by The Boyle Family's work also with floral influences. The first two pictures are samples of fabric (cotton, calico and two different types of muslin). That I dyed and then used a domestic machine (using free stitch) to make flower shapes. I then stitched on petals that I cut from tissue paper to give it another layer. 

The next few pictures are samples that I did on paper, I dyed the paper and then used paint to give it a ground surface appearance. I then cut petals from paper that I had dyed yellow. I like these outcomes because I think they translate my chosen idea well. 

Y1 Final Major Project - Primary Research

This is my primary research, I decided to take my inspiration from the work of The Boyle Family. I have chosen their work specifically because of their choice of surfaces, I collected a selection of images of the floor, roads, cobbles and flowers. I decided to take a twist on The Boyle Family and add a floral twist.

Y1 Final Major Project - Artist Research - Tracy Emin

In 1997 her work Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963–1995, a tent appliquéd with names, was shown at Charles Saatchi's Sensation exhibition held at the Royal Academy in London. The same year, she gained considerable media exposure when she appeared drunk and swearing on a live Channel 4 TV discussion.

In 1999, Emin had her first solo exhibition in the United States at Lehmann Maupin Gallery, entitled "Every Part of Me's Bleeding". Later that year, she was a Turner Prize nominee and exhibited My Bed — an installation, consisting of her own unmade dirty bed with used condoms and blood-stained underwear.

It may seem a bit strange that I have chosen to research Tracy Emin as an artist as well as her artwork due to its provocative nature and highly sexual content. But, I've given this artist a lot of thought over a few days or so and I've found that throughout her work she has been through a journey, a sexual journey. Through her use of time scale (Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995) she displays the journey she has been on. Her other works display a journey that she has been on throughout her life, subtle hints drop in every piece. I will not be using her work in my outcomes but it has been interesting to look into he work and her as an artist.
